Fears Come True

Our society has reached a dark and frightening time. Deep fears that have previously only manifested in science fiction entertainment have now become a reality. If you think that cloning your pet is harmless, then perhaps you have not heard about the human cloning that is now being performed. What pet cloning proponents have failed to realize is that supporting cloning of any kind leads to a tolerance of cloning of all kinds. Recently, broad support of cloning has been snowballing. If we do not take a stand against pet cloning, then cloned pets are going to be the least of our concerns.

A good example of why we should fear the advancements made in cloning is a company called Clonaid. According to the company's website, “Clonaid™ is the world's leading provider of reproductive human cloning services. Eve, the first cloned baby, was born Dec. 26, 2002, thanks to our team of highly skilled scientists. Since then, we’ve been able to help a number of patients have their own children through our cloning technology.” If the claims of this company are true, human clones are already among us! This is not the only instance of such claims. Allegedly, Dr. Panayiotis Zavros has implanted cloned human embryos into four women. Although hard to believe, the logistics of such a procedure are likely more feasible than many people realize.

The United States does not prohibit human cloning, but until recently, had a history of denying funding for it. Now, funding has been approved for stem cell research. In addition, more and more people have begun to request cloned pets. In addition to cloned pets, there now may even be instances of cloned humans walking among us. In the current social climate, even tolerance of pet cloning is dangerous. The only safe thing to do is to oppose cloning entirely.
