Cloning is Not the Answer

Pet cloning is a field that is expanding rapidly. Pet cloning companies are taking advantage of a society that has begun to see the cloning process in a more favorable light and preying on the emotions of people who have lost beloved pets. Companies that want you to clone your pet use your grief against you by promising a replacement for your lost pet. They then point out that the cloning process is valued in our society, assuring you that it is perfectly okay to clone your pet. Death is a natural part of life, and although you may miss your pet terribly when it dies, to clone your pet is not the solution that these companies would have you believe it is.

When a pet dies, it is natural to feel grief. In fact, confronting grief is an important way to move on and gain the ability to welcome another animal into your life. When grief is not dealt with, it manifests as problems later in life. Often when pets die, people experience sensations of guilt that accompany strong loss. In order to avoid further emotional and mental distress, it is important to deal with these feelings.

That being said, grieving is a difficult process to go through. Pet cloning companies are aware of this. In fact, they gain customers by exploiting the difficulty of grieving. If you clone your pet, they maintain, you can bypass the grieving process by welcoming a replica of your pet into your home. The truth is that they want you to clone your pet so they can make a profit. These companies offer a replacement pet, but cannot actually bring your pet back from the dead or prolong its life. A healthier alternative to cloning a pet is to accept a pet's death and move on. The bond you will form with another pet will be just as fulfilling, and memories of your previous pet will keep it close to your heart.
